Fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Wimbledon men’s singles event with a 6-4 win over host Cameron Norrie. Zverev reached the third round with a 6-4, 7-6 win.
In the men’s doubles, India’s Yuki Bhambri and France’s Albano Oliveti crashed out in the second round. Germany’s Kevin Kravitz and Tim Puetz defeated the Indo-French duo. Scores: 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile, British star and former singles winner Andy Murray ended his career at Wimbledon.
The 37-year-old Murray was to compete in the mixed doubles this time. Murray had to return without playing a single match as teammate Emma Raducan was ruled out due to an injury. Murray had announced that he would retire from tennis after competing at Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics. Murray did not compete in singles at Wimbledon.
