The Qatar Olympic Federation has announced a six-member squad for the Paris Olympics to take part in track and field events.Women sprinter Shahad Mohammed, who received a me and wild card, has also been included in the squad. Muataz Barshim, who won the gold medal in high jump at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a jump of 2.37 m, is the captain of the team. Aboobacker Haider Abdullah will compete in the 800 m race. In the 400-meter hurdles, Qatar will be competing for three. Two-time Asian Games gold medalists Abdurahman Zambra and Basim Hamida and Ismail Dawood will also compete in this event. Shahad Mohammed, who had earlier run the 400m, will compete in the 100m this time. Her best time in the 100m is 12.79 seconds.
Mu’taz Barshim is Qatar’s biggest medal hope this time. For the 32-year-old Burshim, this will probably be his last Olympics. Therefore, we are not aiming for anything less than gold this time. Barshim, who won silver in London and Rio, shared the gold with Italian Gianmarco Tampery at the last Olympics.
When Gianmarco Tamberry withdrew with an injury in the final round, Barshim withdrew and volunteered to share the gold despite having a chance to win the gold alone. 2019 World Championships bronze medalist Abdurrahman Sambra, Basim Hamida, and Dudai Abakar are also hopeful. Two-time Asian champion middle-distance runner Abubakar Haider Abdalla is fighting in the 800 meters. Athletics events at the Olympics, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, will begin on August 1. The athletes are training intensively for the Olympics.
