India won its second gold medal at the 2023 World Boxing Championships. In the women’s boxing event, India’s Saviti Boora won the gold medal. In the women’s 81 kg category, Saviti defeated China’s Wang Lin in straight sets. The second gold came just a day after India won its first gold at the World Women’s Boxing Championships.
She is the seventh Indian woman boxer to win a gold medal in world boxing. After trailing in a hard-fought final, Saviti bounced back to win the match. The Indians won the match 4-3. Saveeti Boora was born into a farmer’s family in Haryana.
In 2015, Boora was the only Indian to reach the final of the Asian Women’s Amateur Boxing Championships in Wulanjabu. In 2017, he was honored with the Bhim Award by the Haryana government for his sporting achievements.
