The Indian team that won the T20 World Cup was accorded a warm welcome in Mumbai. Tens of thousands of people, including at Marine Drive, are waiting to receive the team members who arrived in Mumbai from Delhi. During the roadshow from Mumbai’s Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium, fans gathered on both sides of the road to catch a glimpse of the team members.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a grand welcome for the team at his residence in New Delhi earlier in the day. The Indian team, which returned to Delhi after winning the World Cup, reached the Prime Minister’s Lok Kalyan Marg residence at around 11 a.m. After having breakfast with the Prime Minister, the meeting with the team members lasted for nearly two hours. Congratulating the team, Modi urged them to continue their winning streak.

Soon after the meeting, PM Modi shared a picture of himself with the world champions on social media. Modi described the meeting as a “great gathering with our champions.” They shared some memorable experiences of the tournament,” Modi said.

The Indian contingent arrived at the Prime Minister’s residence wearing a special victory jersey with ‘Champions’ written on it. Bcci secretary Jay Shah and president Roger Binny were also present with the Indian cricket team. The team left the Prime Minister’s residence at around 1 pm and left for the Delhi airport.

The Indian team arrived in Delhi from Barbados at around 6 am in a special Air India flight. Hundreds of people turned up to welcome the Indian team despite inclement weather conditions. The Indian team then proceeded to the ITC Maurya Hotel and celebrated the title victory with the fans who had gathered outside the airport and the hotel. The Indian team cut a special cake prepared at the hotel.
