There was no dearth of goals in the Women’s Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands. But the whole world witnessed the sight of one of those goals paving the way for a marriage.
The wedding of Chile’s Francesca Tala, who scored in a group match against hosts Netherlands, was confirmed with the goal. Before the start of the match, the Chilean told his teammates that he would propose to his boyfriend if he scored a goal.
Tala, who scored in the fifth minute of the second quarter, kept his word by proposing to his boyfriend in the stadium after the match. When her boyfriend said she agreed, her co-stars rushed to congratulate Tala.
Tala serves as a doctor in Santiago, Chile’s capital, and her boyfriend often comes to competitions as a spectator to express her support for Tala. This is the first time that Chile has qualified for the Women’s World Cup. A video of the coach celebrating the tala team’s first World Cup goal has also gone viral on social media.
