France and Spain started the Olympic Games with a stunning victory. The hosts defeated the USA 3-0, while Spain defeated Uzbekistan 2-1.
USA started off well against France. However, early on, Jorde Mihailovich’s shot hit the crossbar and missed the chance to take the lead. France took the lead in the 61st minute through Lacazette as the first half ended goallessly. Alexandre Lacazette’s shot from 20 yards out was deflected into the net without giving the U.S. goalkeeper any chance.
The hosts took the lead within eight minutes. The second goal was scored by Michael Olesse, who recently joined Bayern Munich. With just five minutes left in the stipulated time, Loic scored his third goal through a baid header to complete the table.
In another match, Euro champions Spain’s youth team started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan. Spain opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Marc Publ. However, Uzbekistan retaliated just before half-time. Eldor Shomurodov scored from a penalty kick. Spain got a penalty in the 59th minute but Sergio Gomez’s shot was blocked by the Uzbek goalkeeper. However, three minutes later, Gomez scored the equaliser for Spain. New Zealand also started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Guinea.
